A total of 40 vehicles will fight for the 2016 European Car of the Year title.

All the candidates are new vehicles on sale now or before year’s end in five or more European markets. A reduced list will be made known on December 1 and then a short list of seven finalists will be announced on December 14. The winner will be revealed during the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

Last year the Volkswagen Passat was named European Car of the Year, while in 2014 the Peugeot 308 won the title.
