A mysterious Jeep Renegade prototype has been spied undergoing testing near the company's headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

While little is known about the model, speculation suggests it's a mule for the upcoming Compass and Patriot successor.  However, it is interesting to note this particular prototype doesn't have an extended wheelbase like previous mules.  The model also has "E10 only" stickers on the fuel cap so we know it runs on a blend of ethanol and gasoline.

Regardless of what the model is, the Jeep Compass and Patriot successor is expected to ride on an extend version of the Small Wide platform that underpins the Renegade.  Engine options are expected to carryover, so look for an assortment of familiar options including a 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder with 184 bhp (137 kW) and 177 lb-ft (236 Nm) of torque.
