A heavily camouflaged prototype of what appears to be the second-gen Volvo XC60 has been spotted by a WCF reader.

We are not entirely sure if underneath that extensive amount of black body cladding hides the new XC60, but taking into account it's the next XC model in line for a refresh and that it looks like a smaller XC90, chances are this is indeed the next Swedish compact crossover which should be out late next year.

The prototype was caught on camera on the Autobahn in Germany and given the heavy amount of disguise, Volvo probably started testing procedures only recently so it will be a while until those body add-ons will be removed.

Volvo has previously announced the all-new XC60 will adopt a sportier styling compared to its bigger brother which was created as a more luxurious offering. Chances are there's also going to be a hot Polestar version, but it won't be available right away.

Later on, the XC90 and XC60 will be joined by a smaller XC40 believed to come out before the end of the decade.

Special thanks go to WCF reader Matthias for sending us the tip!
