Renault has released some preliminary details about the second generation Koleos which is expected to go on sale next year.

Speaking to IndianAutosBlog, Renault's senior vice president of corporate design, Laurens van den Acker, said the new Koleos is going to be "completely" different than the current model which he admits never took off because it was between segments (bigger than C, smaller than D). Its replacement will be a proper medium-sized SUV so it will grow in size and will ride on the CMF platform co-developed with Nissan.

He went on to describe the new Koleos as being "much more serious, much more high-end and much more sophisticated." He didn't say whether it will receive a seven-seat layout since Renault is already selling the seven-seater Espace and they don't know whether there's room for a seven-seat Koleos as well.

van den Acker added Renault will disclose more details about the overhauled Koleos early next year. The latest gossip indicates it will be more than five meters long and is being developed in China where it will be made and probably also in South Korea where it's known as the Renault Samsung QM5. European availability is not known at this point, but we can tell you Renault has previously announced the second-gen Koleos will be sold in Australia.
