According to a recent report, Ssangyong is considering a Jeep Wrangler competitor.

Details are limited but an insider who spoke to Autocar said a Wrangler rival could play an important role in launching Ssangyong in the United States.  As they explained, a "Wrangler-style high-design 4x4 could create the waves we’d need in order to make a mark over there."  The source went on to say the model would also appeal to customers in Europe and help to raise the company's profile.

There's no word on when the model could arrive but the magazine is reporting it could be offered with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 128 PS (94 kW) and 160 Nm (118 Nm) of torque.  There could also be a 1.6-liter diesel engine with 115 PS (84 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque.
