Opel has announced Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration is on its way to various models across the range for the 2016 model year.

Google's Android Auto and Apple's CarPlay will make their debut on the next generation Astra scheduled to be unveiled in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The two software systems will work starting early 2016 with Opel's R 4.0 IntelliLink on the Karl, Adam and Corsa while the Touch R700/Navi 900 IntelliLink will get Android Auto and CarPlay later in 2016 on the Karl, next-gen Astra and Insignia.

As most of you know, Android Auto provides support for various Google services such as Maps, Now, Play Music, as well as other apps like Spotify, Whatsapp, Skype, podcast players and an audio & messaging app ecosystem.

As for CarPlay, it enables the driver to access many of the iPhone's features straight from the car's touchscreen and also through voice control via Siri. Supported apps include Phone, Messages, Music, Maps and several third party apps.

In related news, Opel has announced the 2016 Meriva, Mokka, current Astra GTC & Sedan, Zafira Tourer and Cascada equipped with either the Navi 650 or CD600/Navi 950 IntelliLink infotainment systems will gain an AUPEO! Personal Radio app. Based on this, we can assume Opel will keep the three-door GTC and four-door sedan alive in 2016 and sell them alongside the new hatchback (and possibly wagon).
