Toyota has announced the 2016 Mirai will go up for order in the United States this summer.
In order to reserve the model, California residents will have to apply online at a dedicated reservation website. Of course, Toyota cautioned "production of the Mirai is limited and vehicles will be placed with select, eligible customers." That's pretty vague but it doesn't sound too promising if you're not an eco-friendly celebrity.
Even if you happen to get selected, you can only purchase the car from eight pre-qualified dealerships which were chosen based on "advanced technology vehicle sales experience and proximity to hydrogen infrastructure."
The first Mirais are slated to arrive at dealerships in October and Toyota only expects to build about 3,000 units for the U.S. market through 2017.
