Porsche is reportedly developing a new advanced cornering cruise control that can reduce fuel consumption with up to 10 percent.
According to Car and Driver, the so-called InnoDrive system works like a semi-autonomous cruise control but uses two extra pieces of data - the grade of the pavement and the radius of the turn, which are stored in the navigation system’s database. This enables the onboard computers to set the most efficient speed for cruising and perfect 0.50-g turns. The only thing the driver needs to do is steer the car.
Our source claims Porsche is currently testing the new system outside Weissach, Germany. The InnoDrive should provide lower real-world fuel consumption by up to 10 percent and shortened drive time by 2 percent. The system is also being described as “the most entertaining cruise control ever conceived”.
