The recently unveiled Volkswagen C Coupe GTE concept has been the subject of a Variant digital conversion.

Volkswagen introduced the C Coupe GTE concept last month in Shanghai and it was more than just for show as a production version is being planned for a 2016 market launch. Seen here is the concept transformed into a more practical wagon by Theophilus Chin who decided to stretch the rear overhang to enable a more spacious trunk without ruining the car's design.

We don't know whether Volkswagen is cooking up such a model, but we can tell you the sedan will be available exclusively in China where it will be locally produced. It will be powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain which will likely have a lot in common with the concept's setup: 4-cylinder TSI, electric motor, 8-speed automatic transmission and a lithium-ion battery pack.

The MLB-based concept has a 245 PS (180 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) combined output, enough for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 8.6 seconds and a 144 mph (232 km/h) top speed. It consumes only 2.3 liters / 100 km and has a 31 miles (50 km) electric range.
