According to a recent report, Fiat will unveil their version of the Mazda MX-5 later this year.
Citing "industry sources," Edmunds is reporting the Fiat 124 Spider will be unveiled at either the Frankfurt or Los Angeles Auto Show. Following its debut, the model will go on sale in 2016.
Little is known about the car but it will be based on the Mazda MX-5 and feature unique styling. Reports have also indicated the model will use a Fiat-sourced 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine.
As a refresher, the Fiat 124 Spider was originally slated to become an Alfa Romeo but that decision was nixed because the model would have been built in Japan and officials decided it didn't fit their "industrialized in Italy" image.
