Vin Diesel has announced the eight installment in the blockbuster The Fast and the Furious franchise will hit theaters on April 14, 2017.

Furious 7 has accumulated so far no less than $1.15 billion in earnings which makes it the seventh highest-grossing movie ever so it shouldn't come as a surprise that a new movie is being planned. Back in November, we heard Universal's chairman Donna Langley saying they are analyzing the prospects of coming out with at least three more sequels after Furious 7 so the franchise won't be axed in the near future, despite Paul Walker's death.

Yesterday, Vin Diesel announced during Universal's CinemaCon panel in Las Vegas that Furious 8 is set to come out on April 14, 2017. The actor previously hinted the eighth movie will take place in New York and will feature Kurt Russell as well as other new characters. Justin Lin is expected to be the man in charge of directing Furious 8 while according to Donna Langley, Paul Walker "will always be an integral part of the story."
