The rumor mill is back in action as new details are starting to emerge about the upcoming BMW i5.

According to Autobild's sources, the model will be a four-seater that is roughly the same size as the 3-Series but features additional interior room.  The publication also says the company is toying around with a number of unique door configurations including a pair of butterfly doors that would open upwards.  However, it appears a traditional four-door configuration is favored.

Under the hood, two powertrains will reportedly be offered.  The electric variant is slated to use a 225 PS (165 kW) electric motor and a 75 kWh battery which will enable it to travel more than 400 km (248 miles) on a single charge.  There are also rumors of a range-extended variant that would use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine and have a combined maximum output of roughly 400 PS (294 kW).

If everything pans out, the i5 will be launched in mid-2019.
