MG has unveiled their new GS crossover at the Shanghai Auto Show.

Previewed by the CS concept, the GS has a familiar design and features a slender grille which is flanked by sweptback headlights.  Moving further back, we can see plastic body cladding, an upward sweeping beltline and a tailgate-mounted rear spoiler.  The model can also be equipped with optional LED daytime running lights and a variety of wheels in sizes ranging from 16- to 18-inch wheels.

The angular interior is a little button intensive but it comes equipped with air conditioning, split folding rear seats and a four-speaker audio system.  Higher-end variants boast leather upholstery, a premium audio system and an infotainment system with either a 6- or 8-inch display.

Under the hood, two engines will be available.  The turbocharged 1.5-liter unit produces 168 PS (124 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque, while the turbocharged 2.0-liter develops 220 PS (162 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque.  Depending on which engine is selected, it can be connected to a six-speed manual, a six-speed dual-clutch transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.  Front-wheel drive is standard but all-wheel drive is optional.

The MG GS will go on sale in China later this year, while a U.K. launch is slated for late 2016.  However, the company says the model unveiled in Shanghai is not "representative of the UK market version" as the Euro-spec model could be equipped with different engines and gearboxes - among other things.
