Subaru officials have confirmed plans to offer a BRZ STI in the United States in a "couple years."

Details are limited but the model could be influenced by the STI Performance Concept which recently debuted at the New York Auto Show.  However, Subaru of America corporate communications director Michael McHale cautioned the car could be a more restrained "tuned by TSI" variant instead of a full-on STI model.

Whatever the case, the sportier BRZ will likely feature styling and performance tweaks.  Nothing is official but Subaru has previously hinted the car is ripe for beefier brakes, a sportier suspension and an upgraded engine.
