Bentley will reportedly introduce an extreme rear-wheel drive sports coupe in 2016.
According to Autocar, the model will be based on the current Continental GT and will be “a far more extreme offering than the four-wheel-drive GT3-R”. “A lot of people expected the GT3-R to be a proper rear-wheel-drive sports car,” Rolf Frech, the company’s engineering boss told the magazine, “but the problem was timing. We needed the car at the end of the first season of our GT3 racing car, and to do a proper change of the complete powertrain needed longer than we had. But we have the concept in our mind, so why not," he commented.
The new hardcore vehicle will use a tuned version of the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine with power of 572 bhp (427 kW). It will be up to 200 kg (440 lbs) lighter than the GT3-R thanks to “unprecedented” use of lightweight materials.
Production will likely be limited with prices starting at around 300,000 GBP (410,000 EUR).
