The 2016 Mercedes GLE has leaked to the web, ahead of its official debut at the New York Auto Show.

Essentially a facelifted and renamed M-Class, the GLE has a familiar design but adopts a new front fascia with a revised grille and restyled headlights.  The crossover also features new taillights and a sportier dual exhaust system.

The AMG variants go one step further as they are distinguished by an aggressive front bumper and a single bar grille.  The models also have a revised rear end with a four-tailpipe exhaust system.

The interior largely carries over but there's a new three-spoke steering wheel and freestanding infotainment system.

Detailed performance specifications are still pending but the GLE will reportedly be offered with a variety of engines including:

  • A twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 with 333 PS (245 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque
  • A twin-turbo 4.7-liter V8 with 435 PS (320 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque
  • A four-cylinder diesel with 204 PS (150 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque
  • A 3.0-liter V6 diesel with 258 PS (190 kW) and 620 Nm (457 lb-ft) of torque

There will also be two AMG variants with a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 engine.  The entry-level GLE 63 AMG will produce 557 PS (410 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque, while the GLE 63 AMG S will develop 585 PS (577 bhp / 430 kW) and 760 Nm (561 lb-ft) of torque.

Last but not least, there will be a new plug-in hybrid called the GLE500e 4MATIC.  It will reportedly feature a V6 engine and an electric motor that develops 116 PS (85 kW) and 340 Nm (250 lb-ft) of torque.
