Audi has announced they will not launch any MPVs to compete with BMW's 2-Series Active Tourer and Gran Tourer duo.

BMW made a rather shocking move with the 2-Series AT and GT as these are not only the company's first front-wheel drive models, but also their first ever MPVs. It seems Audi isn't willing to counterattack as the company's development boss Ulrich Hackenberg said Audi will allow Volkswagen to handle the small MPV segment.

In other words, Audi is not planning a direct successor for the A2 which was a failure mostly due to its high price commanded by the all-aluminum body. Hackenberg admitted he was a fan of the A2, but he is not sure whether there would be enough buyers to justify the development costs, especially since the Q1 is on the way.
