The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet has made a comeback in a fresh batch of spy photos prior to this year's expected launch.

It looks as expected like the S-Class Coupe with an electrically retractable soft top, but judging by the camouflage on the rear end it will likely have significantly different taillights along with a revised boot lid. Photos of the interior cabin are not available at this point but it will likely be carried over from the coupe and will obviously gain extra buttons for controlling the roof, along with Mercedes-Benz's usual AIRCAP (air deflector) and AIRSCARF (neck-level heating) systems as seen on other convertibles wearing the three-pointed star.

Mercedes-Benz has already confirmed the S-Class Cabriolet will be unveiled later this year and you can imagine it will get the same array of engines and gearboxes as the Coupe, including the V8 5.5-liter with 585 HP (430 kW) & 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) which will power the S63 AMG version and the V12 6.0-liter with 630 HP (463 kW) & 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) for the S65 AMG model.

Look for a public debut mid-September at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany.
