Our spies have sent us a second batch of images depicting the upcoming Smart ForTwo Cabrio.

Already confirmed for a full reveal later this year, the new open-top ForTwo will keep just about the same roof layout as its predecessor so there’s going to be an electrically-operated folding canvas top while the side bars will be manually removable. Beyond the roof, the car will be virtually identical to the regular variant which has been on sale since last year.

This means it will continue to have a rear-wheel drive, rear-mounted engine with power coming from either a 71 HP naturally aspirated 1.0-liter or a 90 HP turbo 0.9-liter. As a reminder, several months ago Smart introduced a new entry-level model equipped with a 1.0-liter rated at 60 HP & 91 Nm for the ForTwo and ForFour. These engines can be paired to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Expect the Smart ForTwo Cabrio to show up in production form at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show this September, with sales commencing in 2016. Until then, a Brabus-tuned version of the ForTwo will be introduced next week in Geneva with styling & mechanical changes.
