Our spies have sent us an additional batch of images with the third-gen Equus undergoing testing in northern Scandinavia.

The second generation Hyundai Equus came out way back in 2009 and even though it was facelifted three years later, the full-size RWD luxury sedan is showing its age but the good news is Hyundai is now testing its replacement which judging by these spy images seems to be in an advanced development stage. It should turn out to be substantially more attractive than the current model taking into account Peter Schreyer is now in charge of Hyundai’s design and he has been doing a great job so far for Kia.

The heavy amount of camo doesn’t allow us to see that many details, but we do notice the LED taillights have a different design compared to the current model while the third side window could be a little bit bigger, indicating a more spacious interior cabin.

Little else is known about Hyundai's flagship model but there are some reports it will be offered with an all-wheel drive system for the first time. The Equus will likely go on sale as a 2016MY so a full reveal might occur before the end of this year. A preview concept might be introduced in April at the New York Auto Show but nothing is official at this point.
