UK media is reporting Volkswagen has plans to launch a crossover which will slot below the Tiguan.

Not to be confused with the upcoming up!-based Taigun, the new high-riding VW model will be bigger and is expected to ride on the flexible MQB platform. It will be based on the next-gen Polo and will probably spawn Skoda and Seat sister models. The report has some substance as Heinz-Jakob Neuser, board member for technical development at VW told Auto Express that "a B-segment crossover would fit very nicely into our generous range."

Chances are the model - which doesn't have a name it - will draw its styling cues from the three-door T-ROC concept unveiled at last year's Geneva Motor Show. However, the production model is bound to receive a five-door layout and will obviously be toned down.

The crossover craze is far from being over as Neuser said in the future Volkswagen will have at least one crossover in every segment while President and CEO of VW Group of America, Michael Horn, declared there's even room for several other derivatives based on these high-riding models.
