MINI has announced a new entry-level engine will be available for the 5-door version, starting from March this year.

The MINI One First 5 door will be powered by a 1.2 TwinPower Turbo 3-cylinder engine with variable camshaft control on the intake and exhaust side. It produces 75 HP (55 kW) and a maximum torque of 150 Nm (111 lb-ft) at 1,400 rpm. These figures are enough for a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration in 13.4 seconds.

The unit is mated to a newly developed 6-speed transmission, offering “optimized efficiency, reduced weight and a high level of shift comfort.” The average fuel consumption of the new MINI is rated at 5.2 l/100 km with CO2 emission level of 121 gr/km.

The introduction of the new 1.2-liter engine expands the MINI 5 door engine portfolio to four petrol and three diesel engines with an output range of 75 HP (55 kW) to 192 HP (141 kW).
