Jeep has announced they are currently analyzing the prospects of coming out with an even smaller crossover to slot below the subcompact Renegade.

The company's CEO Mike Manly said during NAIAS this week in Detroit they are keeping a close eye on the growing small SUV sector and could eventually launch a sub-Renegade model. However, they haven't made up their mind yet due to concerns regarding the capabilities of such a model since "smaller cars are inevitably less capable and a level of capability is key to any Jeep product."

Moreover, it's a bit tricky to go below the Renegade since Manly says it would be harder to make the model profitable especially if built outside the domestic market. If eventually green-lighted for production, this sub-Renegade model would follow the same philosophy as the Fiat Panda Cross which Manly says is "incredibly capable for such a small car."
