It's based on the familiar Atom model but was designed to be a competent off-roader thanks to an increased ground clearance, long-travel suspension, chunky tires and chassis tweaks necessary to handle the rough terrain. It also benefits from additional rollover protection and has received larger alloy wheels.
Tipping the scales at just 670 kg (1,477 lbs), the two-wheel drive Ariel Nomad is powered by a Honda-sourced 4-cylinder 2.4-liter engine tweaked to deliver 235 bhp (175 kW) at 7,200 rpm and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) at 4,300 rpm channeled to the wheels via a six-speed close-ratio gearbox. This hardware setup grants a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) run in 3.4 seconds and a maximum speed of 125 mph (201 km/h).
Ariel says the Nomad is set to go on sale this summer at a starting price of £27,500 (VAT excluded).
