German magazine Auto Bild decided to organize a drag race between a manual BMW M4 Coupe and the i8.

It's certainly an unusual test taking into consideration the M4 and i8 are quite different cars but many are curious to find out which of the two is the quickest in a drag race. While the M4 Coupe packs a 431 HP & 550 Nm inline-six 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo engine, the i8 adopts a 362 HP & 570 Nm plug-in hybrid system by mixing up a 231 HP & 320 Nm three-cylinder 1.5-liter engine with a 131 HP & 250 Nm electric motor.

In terms of performances, ignore the numbers provided in the video as these are wrong since the manual M4 runs the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.3 seconds (not 4.5s). In addition, the i8 completes the sprint in 4.4 seconds (not 4.2s). It should be mentioned the M4 had the standard six-speed manual transmission whereas the i8 had the quicker six-speed auto.

Judging solely by the official numbers, the M4 should have been quicker but taking into account it had a manual gearbox, the way the gears were changed by the driver had a great influence during the start of the drag race.
