It's probably too late now for the 6 to receive a hotter derivative but that hasn't stopped TC from digitally illustrating a higher-performance version of the car which if produced would receive the MPS suffix in Europe while North America would get it as the Mazdaspeed6 and at home in Japan it would be sold as the Mazdaspeed Atenza.

There was such a version during the car's first generation and had a four-cylinder 2.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine delivering 270 HP (260 HP for Euro-spec model) and a maximum torque of 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) sent to an all-wheel drive system through a six-speed manual gearbox. This hardware setup granted a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 6.6 seconds and a 149 mph (240 km/h) top speed.
