Suzuki has released first pictures and information about the Alto RS Turbo, set to be fully unveiled during the Tokyo Auto Salon in January next year.

As the name suggests, this is a turbocharged version of the standard Alto for the Japanese market. Power is provided by a 660cc petrol engine, but there is still no information about the maximum output.

The machine is based on a completely new platform and is up to 60 kg (132 lbs) lighter than its predecessor. The standard version of the Kei car can be offered with either a five-speed automated manual or a CVT, so the same setup is expected for the RS Turbo too.

Visually, the turbo modification differs from the regular Alto with its red accents for the bumpers, red mirror caps and red 17-inch alloy wheels.

The sporty model is expected to be launched in Japan in March 2015.
