Yesterday's mysterious BMW prototype continues to spawn debate but a new report is indicating the model is a mule for a new Z2 roadster.

According to Auto Motor und Sport, the Z2 will be launched in 2016 and be about 15 centimeters shorter than the 2-Series Coupe. It is rumored to be powered by the 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine - that develops 231 PS (170 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque - from the MINI Cooper JCW.

Interestingly, the magazine says the Z2 will ride on the front-wheel drive UKL platform that underpins the MINI Cooper and 2-Series Active Tourer. The publication goes onto say the platform switch is why the rear end of the mule has been significantly altered.
