Tesla Motors has announced the China-spec Model S will soon support GPS navigation.

You might remember that towards the end of July we talked about the Tesla Model S and its lack of Google Maps support but pretty soon the premium electric sedan will offer navigation software. Tesla Motors has teamed up with Chinese mapping company NavInfo and in the near future the China-spec Model S is going to benefit from satellite navigation with touchscreen input and voice control in Chinese.

An exact launch date has not been specified yet by Tesla Motors but according to Chinese media the system will start to roll out towards the end of February next year. Until then, Tesla's IT personnel will have to make some adjustments to the car's infotainment system in order to be fully compatible with the maps. NavInfo also provides maps for a wide variety of locally-produced models from joint ventures between Chinese automakers and General Motors, BMW, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Nissan, Volvo, Volkswagen, Toyota and PSA.
