A Jaguar representative told British media the C-X17 production version will not be labelled as an SUV.

In an interview with Autocar, Jaguar Land Rover boss Ralf Speth insisted on pointing out the upcoming production-ready C-X17 will not be characterized as an SUV. He says "a Jaguar SUV is not possible" as the responsibility of coming out with SUVs and 4x4s belongs to Land Rover. The C-X17 is going to be "far more road-oriented" and will be commercialized with a different moniker.

Jaguar is internally referring to the car as a "sports crossover" but they admit a more attractive name is in the works ahead of the model's market introduction set for 2016. Technical details about the model are scarce right now but we do know it will ride on the iQ[Al] platform also used by the XE compact sedan from where the model will likely borrow most of the engines.

An official reveal could occur as early as the second half of next year.
