Work continues on the 2016 Mercedes E-Class as our spies have caught another prototype undergoing testing in Europe.

While the car is heavily disguised, we can see the model will follow in the footsteps of the S-Class. As a result, the sedan has a prominent grille and curious styling which echoes its larger bother. We can also see new head- and taillights which mimic those used on the S-Class.

Mercedes has been tight-lipped about the model but it is expected to ride on the company's MRA platform. This means we can expect a slightly longer wheelbase and a lower curb weight.

Engine options remain unconfirmed but speculation has indicated everything from an entry-level three-cylinder variant to the return of inline-six cylinder engines. We can also expect an assortment of four-cylinder options and a new E63 AMG with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8.
