According to a recent report, Nissan’s Nismo performance division is currently considering expanding its model range with tuned versions of pickups and SUVs.
Speaking to CarAdvice at the Nismo Festival in Japan, Darren Cox, Nismo’s global boss of sales and marketing, commented that a Nismo version of the new Nissan Navara would be an interesting proposition. “In terms of product we need to be credible, pickup would be a massive seller for Nissan all around the world as it’s very much a global product,” he explained. “Nismo has to be a credible production car from Nissan that’s sporty and therefore we study the implications of that, a pickup could be an interesting product because of its global nature when we go into other markets”.
Currently, the all-new Navara is available with a retuned 4-cylinder, 2.5-liter diesel engine with 163 PS (120 kW) and 403 Nm (297 lb-ft) or 190 PS (140 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft). Nissan is also offering a revised inline-four 2.5-liter gasoline engine. Both of them work with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
