Following its online reveal several days ago, the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake was presented to the press ahead of a global debut set for January at NAIAS in Detroit.

With the CLA Shooting Brake, Mercedes-Benz has added the fifth member to its MFA (modular front architecture) family which also includes the A-Class hatchback, CLA four-door sedan, GLA crossover and the B-Class mini MPV.

As it name implies, the latest derivative is based on the CLA but with a more appealing shooting brake body style that has increased trunk capacity by 25 liters to 495 liters. If that's not enough, the rear seats can be configured in a more steeply raked "cargo" position which will boost trunk space to 595 liters and by folding them down the capacity increases to 1,354 liters.

The engine lineup is borrowed from the CLA, all the way up to the AMG version which makes use of a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged motor producing 360 HP (265 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) channeled to a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system with help from a 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT transmission. This hardware setup grants a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 4.7 seconds and an electronically-capped to speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

A full public debut is programmed for January at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, with the order books opening on January 15 and deliveries kicking off in March.
