Skoda has introduced the Fabia R5 concept at the 2014 Essen Motor Show, prior to next year's motorsport debut.

The third generation Fabia supermini has morphed into a proper motorsport weapon as Skoda plans on offering customer racing teams the possibility to run the Fabia R5 starting next year in the WRC 2 series. Power comes from a four-cylinder 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that you won't find in the road-going Fabia which tops out at 110 HP (81 kW) from a 1.2-liter TSI. Don't get your hopes up too high for a hotter Fabia vRS because Skoda has already said it won't happen due to the previous model's slow demand.

As for the Fabia R5, FIA regulations require a minimum weight of 1,230 kg (2,711 lbs) and will already know the car will come with MacPherson struts, a five-speed sequential gearbox, Michelin tires and the typical WRC 2-spec aerodynamic body which includes among others a roof scoop and a rear wing.
