Porsche Research and Development boss Wolfgang Hatz has confirmed the 2016 Panamera could be offered in multiple body styles.

Talking to Auto Express, Hatz said “We have prepared it for a lot of derivatives." He added there is a "good chance for more derivatives" and he personally wants a Sport Turismo variant.

The executive went on to say the Panamera will ride on a new platform which can underpin a variety of models including a coupe, convertible and Sport Turismo. Hatz declined to say which ones are the front-runners but noted the company has to determine which variants will suit their needs. However, he seemed to downplay the possibility of a Panamera Convertible by saying "For me we already have so many good convertibles with the Boxster and 911, is it something we really need?"

Hatz also dismissed rumors of a Tesla Model S competitor by saying he doesn't see the need for an all-electric Panamera in the near future.
