MINI has introduced the Citysurfer concept this week at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.

It's not all about cars in Los Angeles these days as MINI has brought a kick scooter featuring an electric drive capable of reaching a top speed of 15 mph (25 km/h). It weighs 18 kg (40 lbs) and features a lithium-ion battery mounted within the frame which can be charged by using a 12-volt car socket or a regular household socket.

MINI says it has a range between 10 to 15 miles (15 to 25 km) and the electric motor is activated in only after a certain minimum speed is achieved the old fashioned way by the rider's own thrust. The kick scooter also benefits from brake energy regeneration and can be folded to store in the trunk of a matching MINI.

Deactivating the electric motor is done by using a brake lever while the pneumatic tires are suitable for taking the Citysurfer concept through bumpy roads. Stopping power is provided by independent front & rear hydraulic disc brakes and MINI has also installed a phone holder capable of charging your phone while on the go.

This is only a concept and MINI hasn't said anything about putting the electrified kick scooter into production.
