Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations boss John Edwards has revealed the company will offer an off-road focused model.

In an interview with Auto Express, Edwards said SVO will primarily focus on four types of vehicles including "on-road performance cars, all-terrain performance cars that we haven’t done so far, luxury derivatives and what we’re calling collector’s editions, like the Project 7."

The executive went on to say all Land Rovers are extremely capable off-road but SVO wants to take things further by creating a product that can be abused. He declined to go into specifics but hinted we can expect underbody protection, a higher ground clearance and new wheels with off-road tires. Edwards also suggested the leather upholstery could be replaced by a "material that’s very durable and very hi-tech."

While the executive has previously confirmed a Defender SVO final edition, he also hinted at a Range Rover variant. As he explained, "When we did the G4 challenge five or six years ago there was a strong but niche demand for a G4 challenge Range Rover. We never thought there would be but there was."
