Jeep global brand director Michael Manley has released preliminary details about the resurrected Grand Wagoneer.

Jeep is bringing back the "Grand Wagoneer" moniker for a new flagship model set to be positioned above the Grand Cherokee which will adopt a three-row seating layout. Talking to Autocar, the company's global brand director Michael Manley said the model is a "big focus and will fill out the brand at the top."

He went on to say the Grand Cherokee will not collide with the upcoming Maserati Levante as Manley points out "Maserati and Jeep are two very different brands" and the "Levante will play in a part of the market that Jeep is not playing in." He clearly specified the Grand Cherokee will rival the Range Rover as the two companies "have historically competed."

We remind you that about a month ago during the Paris Motor Show we heard Manley saying the 2018 Jeep Grand Wagoneer will "very, very effectively compete with premium SUVs." At that time he also acknowledged the company is taking into consideration coming out with competitors for the BMW X4 and/or X6.
