McLaren has officially confirmed a new model will be launched in the second quarter of 2015.

Dubbed the Sports Series, the vehicle will be positioned below the 650S in the company’s lineup and will be a "pure McLaren", according to the manufacturer. It will feature a carbon fiber chassis and a mid-mounted V8 engine and will bring “Formula 1 technologies and know-how to a new segment for the brand.”

The British company will introduce the model in 13 promotional chapters. Over the course of the coming weeks, McLaren will be using the #BlackSwanMoments hashtag to “tell stories that have truly changed and challenged people’s beliefs.”

Previous reports have suggested the model will be powered by a V8 3.8-liter twin-turbo engine generating anywhere between 450 bhp (335 kW) and 500 bhp (373 kW). Pricing is expected to start at roughly £125,000 (160,000 EUR) which would make it significantly cheaper than the £195,250 (249,000 EUR) 650S Coupe.
