Mazda has announced plans to make an "exciting" global motorsports announcement at SEMA on November 4th.

The company is keeping details under wraps but Motoring is reporting Mazda will announce the creation of a one-make racing series for the 2016 MX-5. Nothing is official but the website believes the series will kick off in the United States before eventually expanding to Europe, Japan and other key markets.

Little else is known about the series but the 2016 MX-5 will go on sale next year and be offered with a 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G petrol engine. Mazda has been coy on specifications but rumors have suggested the 1.5-liter engine will produce approximately 140 bhp (104 kW) while the 2.0-liter unit could develop as much as 200 bhp (149 kW).
