The sinister looking Renault Sport R.S. 01 has made its first public laps in front of 58,000 spectators at the Circuito de Jerez in Spain.

The car was driven by Alain Prost who remarked "The Renault Sport R.S. 01 is magnificent, and that’s important in terms of image." He added, "This is a new step forward for Renault, since it is launching what is actually a typical Endurance car. It’s a real race car, while being closely linked to the product since its design was largely inspired by the new production models."

As we have previously reported, the Renault Sport R.S. 01 features a carbon monocoque chassis and a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 engine that develops more than 500 bhp (373 kW) and 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque. It will be eligible to compete in the LMP1 class and the first deliveries are slated for March of next year.
