Ariel and TMI AutoTech, the exclusive North American manufacturer of the Atom, have officially presented the Atom S.
Described as the most powerful version of the Atom after the Atom V8, the model comes with features “never before seen on the Ariel Atom 3 platform”. It uses a 2.4-liter turbocharged Honda-sourced petrol engine that produces 365 HP (268 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque. The vehicle has also received a cockpit adjustable traction control system that improves “acceleration and stability over a wide variety of surface conditions”, 4-piston brake calipers for all wheels and adjustable dampers for the suspension.
The 2.4-liter engine can be mated to three different transmission options – standard, close ratio or a new Sadev 6-speed sequential gearbox. It offers an “ultra-quick shifting through steering column mounted paddles”, which “provides for optimal track performance”.
The producer says all Atom 3S will feature a full glass windscreen to “allow for a clear view ahead while seated in a race inspired composite seat”, while a full LCD display “allows for easy viewing of data such as speed, rpm, gear position, as well as water temperature and fuel level”.
According to Ariel and TMI AutoTech, the Atom 3S accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (0-97 km/h) in less than 2.8 seconds and runs the quarter mile in around 10.7 seconds. The model is priced at 89,750 USD (70,800 EUR), while the standard Atom 3 is rated at 64,500 USD (50,850 EUR).
