A new report indicates Lincoln will be getting a rear-wheel drive crossover in the years to come.

Towards the end of September we heard from Ford about their 2020 Vision plan which among others referred to the Lincoln brand tripling annual sales to around 200,000 units by the end of the decade. An overhauled MKX is on the way along with an "all-new, full-size sedan" as well additional models by 2020.

One of the newcomers will apparently be a rear-wheel drive crossover which sounds a bit weird but it has already been done before in the AU-spec Ford Territory pictured above. Rear-wheel drive will be standard but at an additional cost an all-wheel drive setup is going to be offered, with the report suggesting most customers will opt for the AWD version.

According to The Truth About Cars, the upcoming RWD Lincoln crossover will actually be based on the next generation Ford Explorer but other details such as engine lineup, styling and name are not available at this point.
