Fiat has announced production of the Panda will be temporarily suspended between October 16 and 27.

Earlier this month we found out Fiat halted production of the 500L for several days and now the company has announced they will do the same with the Panda assembled at the Pomigliano factory located in southern Italy. Production will be suspended between October 16 and 27 due to "the slowdown in the market in view of the end of the year", according to Giuseppe Terracciano, secretary general for the Fim-Cisl union in Naples.

It should be mentioned Fiat is known to use state-backed temporary layoff schemes as a method to avoid overproduction by keeping employees at home whenever demand is lower. Since March, around 1,950 workers of a total of 4,500 employees at the Pomigliano plant have been on "solidarity contracts", agreeing to work fewer hours and be paid less in order to keep their jobs.
