The Institute of Advanced Motorists has issued a dire warning following the introduction of the Apple Watch.

While the Institute hasn't even handled the Watch themselves, they're warning it could "significantly impair driving performance" and be a "distraction" that could contribute to accidents.

The organization goes on to say "Constant alerts will require motorists’ regular attention. As opposed to using a legal hands-free piece of equipment the iWatch (sic) will require drivers to use two hands to operate the device – impacting speed, lane position and time spent looking at the road."

The statements seem a little alarmist but the UK's Department for Transport has already decided that using a smartwatch while driving will carry the same penalty as using a mobile phone while driving.
