Mercedes-Benz has announced the S500 Plug-In Hybrid has an £87,965 starting price in United Kingdom.

Billed as "one of the most advanced saloon cars in the world", the Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-In Hybrid will be sold on the UK market exclusively in the long wheelbase variant. It's based on the S500L AMG Line so it gets the AMG body kit and 19-inch wheels, LED intelligent light system, leather upholstery, noise insulating glass and front seats with memory function.

More importantly, the S500 Plug-In Hybrid can return an impressive 100.9 mpg UK (84 mpg US or 2.8 liters / 100 km) with corresponding CO2 emissions of 65 g/km. It needs just 5.2 seconds for the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint and tops out at an electronically-limited 155 mph (250 km/h).

It's all possible thanks to a hybrid setup consisting of a bi-turbo V6 3.0-liter engine generating 333 PS (245 kW) and an electric motor producing an extra 116 PS (85 kW) to offer a combined output of 442 PS (325 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. Mercedes-Benz says the S500 Plug-In Hybrid can be driven solely on electric power for 20 miles (32 km) thanks to a 8.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which can be fully recharged in two hours when using a three-phase power point.

Deliveries of the Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-In Hybrid (UK-spec) will start towards the end of November.
