A week ahead of its debut, Mercedes has confirmed performance specifications for the highly anticipated and highly hyped AMG GT S.

While we've already known the model will feature a new twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that produces 510 PS (375 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque, the company has confirmed the engine will enable the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of 310 km/h (192 mph). For comparison, the outgoing SLS AMG could accomplish the same task in the same time but hit a slightly higher electronically-limited top speed of 317 km/h (197 mph).

Mercedes is keeping additional information under wraps but they hinted the AMG GT is a "straightforward, reliable companion for everyday motoring thanks to its practical tailgate, easily accessible luggage compartment, high level of comfort on long journeys and the extensive Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive assistance systems."
