Ford and General Motors are embracing aluminum on their full-size trucks but it appears Ram will eschew the trend for the time being.

According to two sources who spoke to Reuters, the "major update" for 2017 Ram 1500 won't include a switch to the lightweight material. Nothing is official but speculation suggests the move will placate commercial owners who aren't sold on aluminum-bodied trucks while saving the company millions of dollars by minimizing costs.

As we have previously reported, the Ram 1500 will receive a minor facelift next year before the "major update" in 2017. A full redesign isn't expected until 2021 at the earliest.
