An undisguised prototype of the Citroën C3-XR has been photographed in China ahead of an official reveal set for late this year.

Citroën previewed its new compact crossover in April at the Beijing Motor Show with the C-XR concept and now they are putting the finishing touches on the production version which will be commercialized with the "C3-XR" moniker as seen on this prototype. It will likely be positioned between the 2008 and DS6 WR and will be manufactured in China by the Citroën & Dongfeng Motor Group joint venture.

The base engine will allegedly be a naturally-aspirated 1.8 of an unspecified output but for more money clients will have the possibility of opting for a beefier 1.6-liter turbo with 163 bhp (122 kW).

The Citroën C3-XR is expected to go official towards the end of November at the Guangzhou Auto Show, with sales to commence before the end of the year.
