We managed to grab an additional set of spy shots with the 2015 Honda/Acura NSX prototype that was destroyed on Thursday.
Yesterday we saw post-fire pics of the next-gen NSX on the Nürburgring and now we bring images with the prototype while up in flames. Our sources tell us the fire started at the back following two explosions of the batteries and shortly after that the flames extended onto the rest of the vehicle. Needless to say, this NSX is a total loss but what really matters is there weren't any injuries as the test driver pulled over at Pflanzgarten and got out safe and sound.
Although this kind of media exposure will probably affect the NSX's image a little bit, the second generation is still highly anticipated especially by fans of the original variant, a car which saw the light of day with input coming from F1 legend Ayrton Senna.
The 2015 Honda/Acura NSX will feature a mid-mounted V6 engine driving the rear axle and two electric motors powering the front wheels as part of a Sport Hybrid Super Handling All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system that also includes a third electric motor incorporated into a newly developed dual-clutch gearbox.
Developed by Honda R&D Americas, the NSX follows a couple of namesake concepts and is scheduled to enter production sometime next year in Ohio where Honda is infusing 70M USD in a new Performance Manufacturing Center.
